In June 2013, following the application submitted by the Department of Architecture to the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) in the United States, former NAAB President Cornelius Kin Dubois visited our department in November 2013 and prepared a report. This report was evaluated at the NAAB General Assembly in February 2014, and as a result of the voting, our institution was approved to proceed to the second phase.
The second phase visit was conducted between October 9-15, 2015, by Thomas Fowler and Barbara Sestak. The report prepared following this visit was approved at the NAAB General Assembly in March 2016, allowing our institution to move on to the third phase.
The third phase visit took place between April 5-9, 2019, by Michael Rodriguez, Amy Perenchio, Elizabeth Widaski, and Özgür Dinçyürek. The report prepared after this visit was accepted by the NAAB General Assembly in July 2019, and Yıldız Technical University's Department of Architecture was awarded the International Certification, valid for 6 years from January 1, 2019.
The education program granted International Certification substantially meets the educational outcomes of an architectural program in the United States, demonstrating that the program meets the NAAB International Certification Conditions, which are significantly aligned with the NAAB Accreditation Conditions. The NAAB International Certification is not equivalent to accreditation with U.S. architecture programs but indicates that the architecture program has achieved the highest standard in the quality of professional architectural education.
